A poem in honor of National Dog Day
DOGS
by Durango L. Pete
Dogs are great and such a treat
We lie down at night upon your feet.
We fetch your paper when you ask
For food we'll do most any task.
We lick your salt and kiss your face
And clean our bowl without a trace.
We lead the way on every hike
And perform our tricks the way you like.
In return, a simple loving 'scritch'
Will satisfy the torment of an itch.
A piece of turkey or some cheese
Will do before our bedtime please.
We know you have to pick up our poo
But, remember all the things we do.
Our partnership, we like to think
Offsets the things we leave that stink.
